9 Ways to Remember General Conference {long after it’s done}

April and October are some of my favorite months for the spiritual feast of General Conference#LDSConf! Often at the end of the awesome weekend we find ourselves asking how do I remember general conference?

Have no fear, I have put together 9 awesome ideas to remember General Conference! You will be pleasantly surprised!

9 ways to remember general conference!! #LDSConf

But first off, what is General Conference?

General Conference is a meeting that happens ever six months for the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It’s where all members gather together to listen to the prophet and apostles speak. They speak on behalf of Jesus Christ. They

When is General Conference?

It’s every six months. The first Saturday and Sunday in the months April & October.

Where is General Conference?

The prophet and apostles meet at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah and it is broadcasted via TV, Internet, and Radio. And it’s published in the LDS Ensign Magazine the month after as well.

How does General Conference work?

The Prophet, Thomas S. Monson has been called of God to lead and guide our church, the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He receives revelation from Jesus Christ to lead and guide us. It is not President Monson’s church. We do not worship him. We worship Jesus Christ.

General Conference is an opportunity for members and non-members alike to come and hear the words of God, specific for us in these days.

As far as behind the scenes here is a cool picture I found on Pinterest. Just so you know the image did not come from the official church website. It is a little blurry… sorry I couldn’t find the source of the image.

#LDSConf How to remember General Conference

Alrighty, so now that we know more about it, let’s figure out how we can remember general conference in our every day lives!

Most Obvious –

The most obvious way to remember general conference is to study the Ensign.  And I very carefully chose the word study; don’t just read it, don’t just put it on your coffee table. STUDY it. That means mark it, reference the scriptures, re-read, talk about it, ponder, pray and talk to God about it, and most importantly apply it’s teachings.

Ponderize

Ponderize is a made up word mixing pondering and memorizing. It was taken from THIS talk from Elder Durrant. I would suggest reading the talk but in summary it means you take one scripture a week and, well ponderize it. Put it in a place you will see often. Think about what it means. Memorize it’s words on your heart. Allow the Spirit to teach you how it applies to your life.

Weekly Family Reminders

Take advantage of General Conference add it to your weekly family meetings! Include a thought, a quote or my favorite, a story from General Conference. This is so perfect because you can talk to your family about what it means and what the apostles and prophets of God are trying to teach us in these Latter-days. The words and teachings of General Conference are for us, for us now in these exact days. It is perfect for us to learn in our families how we can be more like Christ.

Use Technology Reminders

I love to set reminders on my phone to study, ponder and read General Conference. But my favorite way to remember general conference from my phone is to watch/listen to the Mormon Channel. This is arguably the best LDS Resource. . . okay, maybe not the best; this one is the best lds resource, but the Mormon Channel definitely ranks top 5 🙂

Tweet, Pin & Posts

A really fun way to remember GC is to follow the church on social media! I love seeing their posts, tweets and pins! If you aren’t sure where to start, try these: Official Facebook, Official Twitter, Official G+, Youtube or the Blog.

Fast & Testimony Meeting

Have you thought about specifically making a goal to bare your testimony about something you’ve learned from General Conference? But… NOT the month after? What about 3 or 4 months after? I challenge you to set a reminder on your phone the week before Fast Sunday 3 months after the last GC.

Challenge Accepted

Talk about Challenge . . . what about making it a goal to *actually* apply the challenges we get from General Conference? And more than one challenge. There is 6 months between each conference; which means you have about 24 weeks to take a new challenge.

Try it. #challengeaccepted

Journal

Another awesome way to remember GC is to write about it in your journal. The questions you have, the things you’ve learned, and the things you want to learn more about.

Visual Reminders

Put up a picture of the 1st presidency in your house to remember who you sustain, to remember their words, and to remember who they point you towards. Christ.

You could also look at the memes from the Mormon Channel that have cute sayings with quotes.

You could put something on your fridge to visually remember. Check out these awesome images already put together by the church with quotes from General Conference.
