The WALL*E Revolution

Have you ever noticed how our country is fat? Like really, really fat? I call this the WALL*E Revolution!

You’ll know what I’m talking about if you’ve seen Disney’s WALL-E movie? If you haven’t seen it check out the trailer HERE. The basic summary is Earth becomes a place that humans can no longer live in (because of all the pollution and waste, the air is too bad) so all of the people on Earth move to a ship in outer space. The humans built little robots that are supposed to clean up all of the waste so that the Earth will be habitable again. The movie takes place when only one of these robots {WALL*E} remains.

There is one part of the movie that talks about how all of the people on the ship have gotten so fat {see video below .. about 1:35} or you can see the video on YouTube Here.

So why am I telling you this? Well in some sad but incredibly funny way we have found ourselves in a WALL*E Revolution! We, as a nation, are so fat! Don’t believe me? LOOK AROUND!

You know, at the local Wally-World have you seen how fat everyone and their mama is? It’s one thing to see fat parents, but it breaks my heart to see fat kids too!

Our Real Life WALL*E Revolution

According to the CDC 78.6 million adults are considered obese! Why is that such a problem?

Well for starters… obese people are costing our country an estimated average of $147 billion in medical costs each year {and each year that number continues to grow}! That’s about $1,500 more per fat person than a normal adult who is considered “healthy” weight.

Here is a fun graphic from Healthy People 2020:

Another reason why obesity in America is such a problem has something to do with quality of life.. oh yeah that’s right: OBESITY IS THE LEADING CAUSE OF PREVENTABLE DEATH IN AMERICA!!!!!!!!!

Wait, did you get that, ’cause maybe you didn’t. . . Obesity.. yes that means the fat people … is the leading cause of death that could be prevented!!!!!!!!!

{I’ll wait a minute while you close your jaw}.

But that’s not my biggest problem with adults being so fat. My biggest problem with this so-called “WALL*E Revolution” is that we are teaching our kids these incredibly unhealthy, fat-creating, habits!!

Passing the WALL*E Revolution to our kids

He’s fat, and she’s fat and I’m worried that the baby is going to be fat. It’s just me and two fatties.” {comment below if you can name that movie ;D }

According to the CDC approximately 12.7 million kids in the US are obese. And that was a statistic from 2011 – 2012, so I can only imagine that number continues to increase!

I don’t even want to begin on the negative implications for fat kids…mmm hmm…. don’t even want to go there.

You can look at this really cool CDC geological map that shows the obesity rates for specific locations.

Why are we so fat?

I was just watching tv with my husband and up pops a commercial for a hamburger. But these days it’s no longer just a hamburger; it had bacon, meat, cheese, hotdogs, fried onion rings and whatever other greasy fat deep-fried nonsense they can add on top!

Wanna see the calories for a bad boy {bad boy meaning the hamburger} like that?

check the calories before you eat them!

I had some fun playing around with different calorie menus 🙂 Look at how many calories are in one doughnut! And can I say, who eats just one? Seriously, right?

the walle revolution

The average salad at Cafe Rio is around 1200 calories. Yes, for one salad. You thought you were making a healthy decision by eating a salad, but you’re wrong.

The saddest part is that we, I say that loosely, don’t know what we are eating. We don’t take the time to calculate how many calories we are consuming. We don’t figure out what is actually in our food. We just order what sounds good.

I am just as much to blame, but there has to be a stop somehow!

So put aside the fitness/health fanatics, the rest of us, like just the normal average SAHM need to do better. We need to understand the basics of even how to be healthy and follow guidelines to guarantee weight loss. This is our call to action to be better not only for our own happiness, but for the health and happiness of our children.

Take that french fry out of your toddlers mouth and feed him an apple slice instead. Please, for the love of all fiddle sticks don’t give your kids soda. Just don’t. Step up to the plate of motherhood responsibility and choose to provide healthy options!
