My 2 year old was invited to a really adorable superhero birthday party! We were given specific instructions that we were to wear some type of super hero costume! My 2 year old son insisted on Captain America!!
So mom and ‘the boy’ {as we call him at our house} put together a DIY Captain America Shield!
What you’ll need:
- Cardboard {I used the left over diaper box}
- Red Paint
- White Paint
- Blue Paint
- Paint Brush {got 4 in a pack at the dollar store}
- Duct Tape {I used white}
Instructions:
- Cut a circle out of the cardboard
- Paint the whole shield white {you can do front and back, or just front}
- Dot the outside of the circle with red paint.
- Make an outer ring of red paint
- Repeat for an inner red circle {I measured it by putting three fingers apart from the outer red ring. Then I added red dots, and just smoothed out with the brush.}
- Then make the star by adding 5 small triangles in blue paint. Just add a small dab, not too much. If I did it again I would make a star out of paper and trace around it so the star looks better. But you can free hand it if you want!
- As for the handle on the back, put two pieces of duct tape together. Leave one side longer than the other {for example, make one duct tape 8″ long and the other 6″ long}. Put the sticky sides together. Center the shorter piece in the middle of the longer piece. Now stick the longer piece on the cardboard. And whal-a! You’ve got yourself a super fancy handle!
My son absolutely loves being Captain America! We got his costume and hat at Costco. I had to hem the arms, legs and hat. But now that it’s all perfect for his cute little self he runs around as happy as could be!
